Appu Ghar was the first amusement park to open in India and was something very dear to Delhites. Almost every body at some point of time had been there. Appu Ghar has been a fond memory of most of our parents. But it was closed down and we kids did not have any good amusement park to go and create our own memories. But then in 2006 came the most exciting adventure park in Delhi – Adventure Island in Rohini. Adventure Island Rohini is a theme park that has everything we had ever seen on TLC and also in the Hollywood movies. A fifty fifty joint venture between Unitech Amusement Parks Ltd. and International Amusement Ltd. (the promoters of Appu Ghar), Adventure Island is spread over 62 acres and houses within itself 2.21 lakh square feet huge shopping mall by the name Metro Walk and the 35 acres huge amusement park cum water park that is Adventure Island. A 3.5 acres huge artificial lake that provides for a unique and refreshing backdrop for an ultimate leisure experience separates these two. The Metro Walk Mall offers you a two level shopping experience housing around 108 retail outlets. The shopping area has been divided into four different sections and you can find all major International brands’ outlets here along with various dinning and entertainment options.
Connecting the Metro Walk Mall with the amusement park, Adventure Island Rohini, is a bridge built over the artificial lake that looks quiet similar to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The park is divided into two sections – water park and amusement park. The 24-acre amusement park has 26 rides which can be categorized as rides for thrill, family and children. The most popular rides are Cyclone, Bush Buggies, Flip Out, Space Jump, Fire Brigade, Wild Wheels, Z Force, Sidewinder, Derby Devils, Sky Riders, Lighting Bold, Twister, Air Bus etc. All these rides have been imported from leading suppliers who supply to international amusement parks such as Disneyworld, Universal and Six Flags. The major highlight of the water park is the separate zone dedicated to extreme slides and splash play area, Lazy River and Action River that run all through the park, secluded grottoes, spa pools, two wave pools and an artificial beach.
