Celebrate the Fourth of July in magical Disney World

Anyone visiting the USA around the 4 July could find themselves surprised by the level of passion and commitment the American people give to their national holiday. That also means there can be no better time to see the country at its celebratory best – and if there’s one destination that’s always guaranteed to outdo the others it’s the vibrant Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida.

Even if you’ve visited the park before, you’re set for a unique experience when planning your trip around the special day. Each area of the resort, from the fantastical Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney to the sporting Epcot Park, are given a patriotic makeover that’s always welcoming to foreign visitors.

Walt Disney World can be relied on to go all-out on special occasions, but even its Halloween and Christmas festivities don’t come close to the impact of this single day of the calendar. Numerous parks across the resort stage their own fireworks spectaculars, one of the most prominent being the ‘Concert in the Sky’ – an airborne feature of pyrotechnic effects held above the glittering towers of the Magic Kingdom Park and backed by orchestral music. Following this awe-inspiring performance at 9pm are two rounds of the traditional SpectroMagic night-time parade, at 10.30pm and 12.30am, to help nocturnal revellers take their celebrations well into the night.

It’s not just the Magic Kingdom that will be lit up with the sights and sounds of Independence Day celebrations, and wherever you end up in the sprawling Disney World complex you’re sure to enjoy an excellent vantage point for your local display. The daily fireworks extravaganza at Epcot is augmented with extra energy for the event, and based around the American Adventure pavilion, it’s an ideal opportunity for lovers of American culture to hear time-honoured US classics performed by the resident Voices of Liberty band.

With all the attention focused on the illuminated sky, that doesn’t mean the park’s famous characters are denied their time in the limelight, and Disney lovers young and old will be treated to the nightly performance of the Fantasmic! show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at 10.30pm, after the park’s dazzling fireworks display has finished. Featuring beloved characters from across the Disney pantheon, along with animation and water effects, this show is one of many reasons families choose holidays in Orlando each year, to bring some magic into their children’s lives on summer breaks.
