News: 2 arrested for stealing coaster track

Posted at 2:41 PM EDT (1841 GMT)

May. 3rd, 2008 -- Two men were arrested for stealing roller coaster track from Zoomers Family Amusement Park in Fort Myers, Fla.

They reportedly stole $10,000 worth of track.

The park's owner, Timothy Miles, said he was checking on the park because it had been broken into before. He said he saw a truck pulling a trailer loaded with the track. He followed the truck and called 911, leading to the arrest of Jason Duby, 33, and Randy Squire, 29.

Miles went back to the park and said he found out that other items also were missing.

Well it was just a little wisdom coaster. You could just take each little track part one at a time and get away with it :P

There's plenty of Pepsi cans on the roadway that they could pick up.

Ok, people steal beer to get drunk. People steal money to spend it. People steal cigarettes to smoke it. What in the WORLD would a person do with stolen roller coaster track? Common sense just isn't that common anymore.

I've heard of people stealing copper or aluminum for scrap metal money. But steel is not worth much money as scrap. I wouldn't think it would be worth it.

Regardless, these two are thieves. I hope thier prosecuted to the fullest!!!!

Oh, I beg to differ. Steel can get you quite a bit of dough I'm told. I know when Conneaut's ballroom burned there were some men on the site telling the park how much money they could get from scrapping all the steel to help recover some of the financial distress it was adding to the already struggling facility.

I don't think much will happen to them, Maybe some community service or 30 days in jail. It would be a different story if it were B&M track from Sea World or anywhere for that matter.

It was still a dumb choice on their part.

Screamscape just posted this.

"The two men busted for stealing coaster track from Zoomers earlier this week claim it was all a big misunderstanding. They thought the track had been scrapped since it was placed by the trash and looked to be rusty and “busted up” so they grabbed it with the intention of recycling it."

Good excuse i must say.

If it indeed was rusty and busted up then these guys did the park a favor by trying to take it off their hands. If they would have build a coaster useing rusty, busted & bent steel that would have resulted in injury maybe even death of the parks guest.

I think Shapiro has found a cheaper way to build coasters. ;)

I thought the law was you can take anything out of a public waste area such as what they were talking about. The only problem would be if they actually broke into the park. Then, yeah, they broke the law, 100%.

This is a funny story. If screamscape is correct, I don't know what to make out of this.

Did they actually think that they would get away with this?
