News: Pool Party at Water Country USA

Posted at 10:05 AM EDT (1405 GMT)

May. 9th, 2008 -- WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Hundreds of Water Country USA fans boogied the day away Thursday morning during an old-fashioned pool party hosted by the mid-Atlantic’s largest water park to publicly debut the water park’s newest attraction. The sneak peek of Rock ‘n’ Roll Island, a 3/4–acre island of crystal-clear blue water that is surrounded by a Rambling River and anchored by three brand new body slides, occurred two days before the park’s May 10 opening.

Broadcast-quality video, high-resolution images and information about the new attraction are available online at:

Here’s a brief description of Rock ‘n’ Roll Island:  A 33-foot-tall “Jammin’ Juke Box” slide tower anchors Rock ‘n’ Roll Island and juts skyward at the far edge of the island. Three translucent body slides shoot from the top of the structure, each named after a popular rock-and-roll dance—the “Funky Chicken,” the “Hully Gully,” and the “Twist.” The slides twist and turn for nearly 200 feet before spilling riders into the island’s 9,000-square-foot pool. For the little ones, Rock ‘n’ Roll Island features a new “Little Bopper” children’s slide.

More than half of Rock ‘n’ Roll Island’s pool is reserved for swimming and relaxing. Guests also can float with the current in the 700-foot-long lazy river that surrounds the island.

Water Country USA is a Worlds of Discovery park. Other Worlds of Discovery parks include Busch Gardens in Williamsburg and Tampa, Fl.; SeaWorld in San Diego, San Antonio and Orlando; Sesame Place near Philadelphia; Adventure Island in Tampa; and Discovery Cove and Aquatica in Orlando.

The one think Water Country has always lacked in was body slides, this should be a good addition to the park.
