News: Ride collapses at Liseberg; 30 hurt

Posted at 4:26 PM EDT (2026 GMT)

Jul. 15th, 2008 -- The Rainbow ride collapsed at Liseberg and injured 30 people.

A spokeswoman for the rescue service company said none of the injuries were life threatening. She said 30 people were taken to the hospital.

Some people were thrown from the ride and squeezed when it tipped to the side, police said. The police said 36 people were on the ride.

A Liseberg manager said the accident appears to have been caused by a manfunctioning ball bearing.

It is intresting that alot are happening the past few years but it seem that every year alot of accidents happen all at once.

In most cases its basically poorly maintained rides.

Wow. I'm surprised no one died if the whole ride collapsed and even people were thrown from the vehicle. Not only that, I'm amazed no one has life threatening injuries. Granted, I'm not complaining.

This certainly can't be good news for a park I had previously heard nothing but positives about.

It must not be a very tall ride or it was at a very low point when it broke. Either was its always good to hear nobody was seriously injured or killed.

Thanks for the photo.

Just as i thought. It was pretty close to the ground.
Now if it had been at the top we might have seem some deaths.

Thank goodness it broke where it did.

I wonder how the bearing broke? Not enough grease? Just worn out? Seems like it should have been caught during preventative maintenence.
