Wish i could. I'm stuck on a boat until Oct. They already have nice pictures on their site as it is. I wonder why they need more.

Great PR initative from GCI. I wish I were more of a photographer. I'd like to participate but don't think I could produce a photo of the quality they'll be looking for.

We corrected the story... GCII contacted us, noting that they want submissions, as it's not a contest, really.

Beware of the terms and conditions.

"Any photo submitted by you must be your own and cannot be used commercially elsewhere."

That would prevent you from displaying the submitted photo on your own web site if it generates revenue and it would prevent you from selling or loaning your photo to others for commercial use.

I really think they should revise this to say they're seeking "non-exclusive" rights. If they really care if the photo has already been used in a commercial manner they should just ask you to disclose it in advance.

Also, do they retain the right to resell your photo if selected for commercial purposes? That is not clear.

Be very careful. If your photo is so good and they want to use it for free, then the rights should be non-exclusive with credit given and you retain full rights distribute, repurpose and use it in any manner that you see fit. If they want exclusive rights then they should pay for it.

Under their current terms, I wouldn't use any existing photos at all. If you want to submit anything, go out and take new photos, and submit them specifically for that purpose.

Otherwise, just say you want to retain the right to distribute the photos as you see fit, and that they should seek non-exclusive rights.
