Six Flags reopening Grand Carousel after refurbishing and relocating it

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is reopening its Grand Carousel after refurbishing it and relocating it to the German-themed section of the park.

The carousel was closed last year to move it and make room for the new Wonder Woman Golden Lasso roller coaster that opened earlier this year, said Ron McKinzie, marketing director of Six Flags Fiesta Texas. At the same time, the park decided to refurbish the 26-year-old ride that had been there since the park opened.

The carousel’s new home is also where it was original located when the park was first built.

“It felt like the perfect time to do the restoration and relocate it to a spot where our guests loved seeing it,” McKinzie said. “It’s going back to it’s original home in the park, which is very exciting to us.”

Refurbishing the carousel’s horses was a six month process.

“There’s a lot of fine detail in those animals that are on the carousel, so we wanted to make sure we were able to match and recreate all of the detail and little nuances of each one,” McKinzie said.

The carousel is not yet open to the general public full time. Season pass holders have early access to it from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and after 4 p.m. it is open to all park goers until July 29. It can be found next to Sangerfest Hall in the center of the park.
