Universal Studios New York Street Opening



Universal opens the newly rebuilt “New York Street” on Universal’s famous back-lot just two years after the June 2008 fire.

The facades and legendary filming locations will open to filmmakers for scouting starting this weekend as well as to Universal Studios Hollywood theme park guests who can visit the new sets on the tram via the Studio Tour.

In attendance at today’s press conference were Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, director Steven Spielberg, Universal Studios President & COO Ron Meyer, NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Fire Dept Reps – Chief Deputy Daryl Osby and Ret. Fire Chief Doug Barry and celebrities such as Jonah Hill and Christopher Lloyd. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg and production designer Rick Carter helped design the updated backlot, which spans 13 city blocks and includes 15 distinct shooting locations.
